POCKET GUITAR: GUITAR HERO ON THE IPHONE!

iPhone World January 31st, 2008

…well not really, but it very well could be the closest thing! If you haven’t installed this by now, you need to do it ASAP! This is one of my favorite 3rd party applications for the iPhone. It’s called Pocket Guitar and it’s been available for the past little while on Installer.

Pocket Guitar plays like a real guitar and even though the sounds are recorded, they sound pretty decent. It can take some time to practice at first, but I was able to bust out a few notes from the classic, “Ode to joy” successfully! You can increase/decrease the volume and even choose which guitar you want to play. The settings let you choose from:

  • Distorted Guitar
  • Acoustic-Electric Guitar
  • Electric Bass

Here’s a little video to demonstrate Pocket Guitar. A YouTuber’s rendition of Sting’s “Shape of my heart”:

BLOG YOUR TRAVELS EASILY WITH I-GOTU

Tools & Gadgets January 30th, 2008

i-gotU USBWhen I was traveling many years ago, I was extremely excited at just having a digital camera to use. Since it was my first experience with digital cameras, I took pictures of everything I saw…hell, I could always delete the picture if I didn’t like it. Every time the card got close to being full, I would burn the images on a disc and continue with my picture taking. Since those days, I still haven’t documented my travels and put the pictures away in a neat and presentable fashion. Call me lazy, but I wish I had the i-gotU back in those days.

The i-gotU is a simple GPS receiver to connect with your digital camera for complete documentation of the country, city, and place the picture was taken at. At a later time, you may connect it to a computer and upload your images as a Blog of travel. It will remember what pictures are for what area, and present a visual map of your entire traveling experience.

This neat little gadget is water-resistant, compatible with both digital cameras and camera phones, and has a 20 hour battery life. During your next traveling expedition, the i-gotU can help you document the places and experiences a lot easier and also lets you share your entire travel blog quickly with all your friends and family.

Additional product specification and information is available for the USB version as well as the Bluetooth. A demo may also be seen, and for purchase you may check out Semson’s page.

ROUDRAM - PREVIEW

Bollywood News January 29th, 2008

Roudram’ also features a host of stars including Sai Kumar, Vijayaraghavan, Subair, Lalu Alex, Rajan P Dev, Shammi Thilakan, Sphadikom George, Urmila Unni and Sona. Sai Kumar is Sethu, a high profile businessman with a sporting new look, mannerisms and dialogues while Vijayaraghavan, who received rave reviews for his portrayals of many Renji characters comes in as Appichayi, with a paralyzed hand but unrelenting grit.
Narendran is deputed by the state chief minister to gather information about a murder case, which at first seemed a routine affair. Day after day, machinated tales started outpouring which further complicates the case diary .He now finds that, it is time to take on some powerful names of the political and business mafia to dislodge some confusion following the case. How he handles the whole things, speaking always for the righteous people, forms the narrative of the movie.
Now how different is this from any movie from the Suresh Gopi/Shaji Kailas factory? Instead of Suresh Gopi shouting at his opponents we will have Mammotty doing the same. Instead of Suresh Gopi playing the officer, it is Mammotty this time. What then is the USP of this Renji Panicker movie? Mammotty’s first police role after Balram vs Tharadas or references to the latest political events in the state? Hasn’t this genre been beaten to death? How many times have members of the supporting cast played the same role over?
As we mentioned in our article on the death of vigilante movies, the beginning and end of the such movies are constant. What makes for interesting viewing is the narration and if the narration and the plot devices are the same as every other movie, what would make this movie interesting? Shoulnd’t they have just released one of the old movies with the new name?

LUKE, USE THE FORCE…FOR EVIL

Tools & Gadgets January 29th, 2008

Would you like to be Darth Vader’s apprentice? Am I the only one who thinks that the Dark Side just looks a lot cooler? Star Wars is releasing a new game in the Summer of 2008 that will grant you the power of the force, to be used in the amazing ways we have seen in the movies.

This upcoming release contains so much more than just awesome graphics. The development team has actually combined three new technologies in order to enhance the freedom and possibilities of the Sith apprentice: Havoc, Euphoria, and DMM (Digital Molecular Matter).

Havoc is a simulating physics platform engine, which allows several different objects to be moved on the screen simultaneously. The amazing video shows a number of different objects are flying, exploding, and reacting in each single scene.

Euphoria lets objects react independently when an action is forced upon them. For example, if a storm trooper is being blown away by the force, it may grab at a nearby object or individual. It grants artificial intelligence to the other characters and subjects in the game as well. As it is mentioned in the developer’s explanations, this provides that no two reactions in the game are ever the same.

DMM (Digital Molecular Matter) makes objects react as they would in real life, as if everything actually has its specific weight and mass. It is clearly shown how glass actually shatters, and other items presented are disintegrated and blown. DMM brings a life like quality to all the items within the game.

The making of video below is extremely fascinating. It includes interviews with the developers and writers behind this outstanding looking video game. Furthermore, you can clearly realize the inspiration of the films brought to the player’s hands with unbelievable gameplay.

Star Wars: the Force Unleashed, will be available for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and lets you use the force…for evil.

SONY ERICSSON EXPANDS PLAYNOW™ ARENA WITH 5 MILLION NEW TRACKS.

Mobile Phones World January 28th, 2008

Cannes, France – 27th January – Sony Ericsson today unveiled the next stage in the evolution of PlayNow™ arena, its popular over-the-air (OTA) download service. At the MIDEM conference in Cannes, Sony Ericsson announced deals with 10 major record labels, adding over 5 million new tracks to its extensive catalogue. Sony Ericsson also unveiled the design and URL for PlayNow™ arena and launched PlayNow™ Uncut, (formerly M-Buzz™) a music promotional space for new, unsigned and developing artists.

Record label partnerships

Today Sony Ericsson announced partnerships with 10 of the largest international and regional music labels including: Sony BMG, Warner Music Group, EMI, The Orchard, IODA, The PocketGroup, Hungama, X5 Music, Bonnier Amigo and VidZone, adding over 5 million new tracks to PlayNow™ arena. Sony Ericsson is currently negotiating further deals with a host of regional labels to further broaden the variety of music available and bring a wealth of localised content direct to the consumer.

Sony Ericsson introduced PlayNow™ in February 2004 as the easiest way to pre-listen and then purchase polyphonic ringtones directly to your phone. The service has proved a hit with consumers and is now available in 32 countries around the world, with annual free and premium downloads through both PlayNow and Fun & Downloads having reached more than 200 million. Since launch, the scope of the service has expanded to mirror the functionality of Sony Ericsson’s phones to include mastertones (MP3 ringtones), games, full music tracks, themes and wallpapers. In November 2007

Sony Ericsson announced its intention to further develop its PlayNow™ service with PlayNow™ arena, offering access to a greatly expanded range of content and combining the power of the PlayNow™ catalogue with unique applications like TrackID™, which identifies songs and allows them to be downloaded directly to your phone or PC.

Speaking at the Sony Ericsson event at MIDEM in Cannes, Sony Ericsson’s Executive Vice President, Anders Runevad, presented the enhanced PlayNow™ arena service and emphasised the importance of industry partnerships delivering digital content and an unparalleled multimedia experience:

"We are delighted to announce deals with such high calibre record labels. This will help realise our vision for PlayNow™ arena as a service that will be developed in collaboration with our partners. Our commitment is to work with the industry to ensure we are building an experience-based and intuitive content delivery platform, enabling the development of an ecosystem that provides a unique experience for the consumer and a business model where everybody prospers."

With mobile games remaining a key focus, Sony Ericsson has also added 250 new games through existing deals with leading games manufactures such as EA Games, Gameloft, THQ, Glu, Digital Chocolate and I-Play. Sony Ericsson users download more games to their phones than users of any other mobile phone brand*. These deals take another step in cementing its number one position in the mobile games market.

PlayNow™ Uncut

PlayNow™ Uncut (previously know as M-BUZZ™) is a pro¬motional space for breaking new and emerging artists via Sony Ericsson’s product, content and marketing channels. PlayNow™ Uncut showcases selected, pre¬viously unreleased tracks, videos, artwork, interviews, tour dates and other artist information on Sony Ericsson mobile phones and the web at www.playnow-uncut.com.

The rebranding and alignment with PlayNow™ opens up new channel opportunities for artists and enables the site to target consumers worldwide, including the United States of America for the first time. With an international reach, the service has always been about presenting the best new talents from around the world, whatever their style or native language. Apart from the current streaming possibilities, the highest rated and most listened to tracks will be made available for sale in the music section of PlayNow™ arena. For artists, this will add revenue possibilities to the already extensive promotional benefits of appearing there.

One Arena. Unlimited experiences

“The PlayNow™ arena is an open environment that offers something for everyone. We see PlayNow™ Uncut as the edgy version, whilst the PlayNow™ music section is more a case of familiarity, giving consumers something they know and are already comfortable with. Consumer experience is our absolute priority and we will continue to develop PlayNow™ arena as a service that appeals to all consumer segments and lifestyle trends,” said Martin Blomkvist, Head of Content Acquisition & Management at Sony Ericsson.

The PlayNow™ arena will be brought directly to the consumer at: www.playnow-arena.com

The PlayNow™ arena will launch in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland in May 2008 with more European markets to come at the end of Q2 2008 and further expansion in Europe, Americas and Asia during Q3 and Q4. Sony Ericsson predicts that the PlayNow™ arena will be active in close to 30 markets by the end of 2008.

TrackID™

The growth in popularity of the TrackID™ application has rocketed around the globe, presently recording more than 200,000 hits per day equal to more than two each second, a figure that has doubled in the last three months. TrackID™ will be an integral part of the PlayNow™ arena experience, offering an instant way to first hear a track – for example, in a coffee shop or on the radio – and then get it to your phone and PC. The PlayNow™ arena itself will feature TrackID™ Charts, created by consumers in real time using TrackID™ around the world. This will allow consumers to see what songs other users are searching for and wanting to hear the most, both globally and in their own market.

Sony Ericsson at Midem 2008

Sony Ericsson will be showcasing its PlayNow™ arena music store as well as demonstrating its latest handsets and accessories at booth R31.01 at Midem 2008 in Cannes, France.
